Hello Beverly Cleary families,
Welcome to February! We start this month by recognizing National School Counselor week. We thank our wonderful counselors, Ms. Lannom, Ms. Jablonski, and Ms. Kobs for the essential support they provide our students and families. It's a great time to have your student write a Thank You note and drop it off in the office for their counselor.
The BCS PTA has also prepared this letter supporting the funding of School Counselors in our district that will be sent to the PPS Superintendent and School Board at the end of the week. Go here to sign the letter now! Thank you for your support.

Annual PPS Clothing Center Drive - Feb 22- March 8
BCS is collecting donations of NEW socks, underwear, gloves and winter hats - sizes 4T to adult - to benefit the PPS Clothing Center. More than 2,000 students in need across the district turn to the Clothing Center every year, and every year the BCS community steps up to ensure that the Clothing Center can provide new socks, hats, gloves and underwear to every student who visits.
All donations are appreciated, but this year the Center reports a particular need for these items:
*Boys and Men’s Knit Boxers (preferred over briefs)
*Teen boy socks sizes 3-9 and 6-12, ankle/low cut style
*Women’s bikini & hipster style underwear (particularly size 5)
*Gloves
Collection bins will be located near the main offices at Fernwood, as well as outside the main doors of the building Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. or send your order straight from our Amazon Wish List.
We LOVE a challenge at BCS, and the PTA is challenging the BCS students to beat their generosity from past years. If the BCS community collectively donates at least 2,400 pairs of socks, underwear, gloves and hats, students will be able to celebrate with a popsicle party in the spring!

Lunch Duty Volunteer Opportunities
Can you help support our staff at lunch duty? As a K-8, BCS has an extended lunch period, lots of students, and a rather large recess area to monitor. If you find free time around mid-day, please consider helping at lunch duty/recess. There will be staff there to support you. Sign up here.
BCS Garden Update
It's a slow time of year in the garden, but we wanted to shout out a thank you to Carson S. (3rd grade), Sylvia R. (3rd grade), and others for helping to install garden edging around our hugelkultur bed. As a group we cleaned the previously used edging and laid the pieces around the bed. Then parent volunteer, Ned Damon, showed students the proper way to use a mallet to hammer the edging in place. The edging creates a boundary between the bed and the walking path so that the organic waste in our mounded bed can break down and decompose. More garden updates coming this spring!
Please email submissions to president@beverlyclearyschool.org by noon on Monday for inclusion in the newsletter.
