Hello Beverly Cleary families,

We are excited about a few things on the horizon for this month, namely the BCS Theatre Program's production of Clue!  We'll also start looking forward to the 23/24 school year and recruiting for various PTA roles.  If you're ready to get involved, please message us.

Clue:  On Stage, presented by the BCS Theatre Program *NEW*

Get tickets here!

This show is appropriate for ages 9 and up. Some actors pretend to drink alcohol. There are gun shot sound effects. It is a murder-mystery comedy, so there are comedic "murder" scenes, but nothing too graphic or gory. The show has comedic use of a candlestick, dagger, rope, wrench, revolver, lead pipe, and toy guns used by police officers. The show is set in the 1950s, so there are references that may not be familiar to younger audiences.

Thursday, April 13th @ 6:00 PM
Friday, April 14th @ 6:00 PM
Saturday, April 15th @ 4:00 PM
Thursday, April 20th @ 6:00 PM
Friday, April 21st @ 6:00 PM

Sign up for those and more here

This Summer, Adventure with Ms. Nelson and Ms. Walters *NEW*

4th and 5th grade BCS teachers Ms. Walters and Ms. Nelson will lead Oregon Adventure Trips this summer. The goal is to provide fun and educational "field trips" for kids to learn about, explore and appreciate Oregon's treasures. Go on adventures throughout Portland, create art, photos and poetry to capture the fun and learning.  Interested?  Visit OregonAdventureTrips.com.

Parent Advocacy Opportunities *NEW*

Thursday, April 13th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, PAT (Portland Association of Teachers) is inviting all parents / guardians / community members to have dinner and meet with PAT members at the PAT office, located at 345 NE 8th Ave. On the agenda for the evening is - defending public education, how PTA's and PAT can work together, ways to engage and support our public schools, and FUN! Please RSVP here so they know how much to order for dinner. Kids are welcome but childcare is not provided.

Saturday, April 8th from 10am to noon, there's an opportunity to voice support for increased school funding. The Joint Ways and Means Committee Co-Chairs are holding a listening session on the upcoming state budget at PCC (Portland Community College) - PAC Auditorium (Sylvania Campus, 12000 SW 49th Ave). Testimony must in person, not remote.  Sign up here on the Ways and Means Committee’s OLIS page. This will be an opportunity for folks to sign up to testify on the State School Fund, early literacy investments, and funding for summer programs.

HB 3221: Local Option Revenue Limits This bill will raise the statutory limits on local option property taxes. In a nutshell, it will allow Portland to keep more of the funds it raises through property taxes and directly funds our PPS schools. If passed, it could really help PPS funding. But unless it gets a hearing, that won't happen. Here's a sample email you can send to the Committee Chair Nancy Nathanson, email Rep.NancyNathanson@oregonlegislature.gov .
