Newsletter 12/15/2025

12/14/2025 11:24 pm

We’re excited to shine a spotlight on the people behind the scenes who make our PTA possible. As part of our effort to encourage more families to get involved, in upcoming newsletters, we’ll feature a PTA board member sharing why they chose to step up and discuss what being part of the PTA has meant to them.

As we look ahead to the next school year, many PTA board positions will be opening up, and we’ll need new volunteers to step in and help continue this important work. We hope these stories inspire you to consider getting involved. Whether you have a little time or a lot, there’s a role for everyone who wants to make a difference in our school community.

Meet Sara Hallvik, Membership Chair

Hello, BCS Community! I’m Sara Hallvik, mom to a 5th-grader and an 8th-grader. I’m currently serving as the PTA Membership Chair, and for the 3rd year, I am the lead organizer of the spring Fun Run fundraiser.

Although I’ve been a BCS parent for 9 years, I didn’t join the PTA until a few years ago. I put it off for various reasons, mostly because of the demands of my day job and raising young humans. I didn’t feel like I had hours in the day or space in my brain to do more, making (incorrect) assumptions about what PTA membership required.

Then, in 2022, I volunteered as a lap-counter for the Fun Run. It was amazing to watch the kids have a blast while raising money for PTA-sponsored community events and teacher grants that make a real impact on every student. I was inspired and joined the PTA the following year. While the demands on my time and brain space haven’t lessened, I discovered I could engage with the PTA in a way that worked for me. It was small, but meaningful.

I volunteered to join the PTA board last spring because I felt the need to try to do more. The change in federal administration and layoffs at my work drove me to look for opportunities to do for one person, or one community, what I wished I could do for all. The PTA offered that opportunity, so here I am.

I wish I had known 9 years ago that no matter your situation, there is no wrong way to PTA. Our school community is strongest when the perspectives of all community members, including students, teachers, parents, staff, and even neighbors, are considered. If you have already joined the PTA, thank you! If you have not, I would encourage you to consider it. Any of this year's officers would be happy to chat with you about options to participate that might fit your interests, time, and availability.

Last Call For Early Bird Pricing!

Capture this school year’s memories with the 2025 yearbook, now available at the early bird price of $22 through Winter Break (12/19/25). After that date, the price will increase to $30.

This year’s edition will be a more compact version, with fewer pages of classroom and activity coverage. With fewer volunteers available to support the Yearbook Club, we’ve scaled back the number of pages and the price reflects this smaller format.
