Spookarama 2025

Friday, October 24th, 5:30 pm to 8 pm

5:30pm: Gentle entry for grades K-2 or any students experiencing sensory avoidance.
6:15pm: Open to all.
8:00pm: Event ends and clean-up begins.

Spookarama, a longstanding annual tradition, is a school-wide event held just before Halloween. BCS families, friends, and neighbors are invited to join us for a frightfully good time as the Fernwood Campus is transformed into a haunted house and carnival, filled with candy, games, and other fun activities designed with elementary-aged students in mind.

Middle School siblings are invited to attend, but all students under 16 must have an adult chaperone.

A dedicated Spookarama Halloween Party for our middle school students, Spookarama Middle School Night is sure to be frightfully fun, from the beloved treat trot to a dance floor and minute-to-win-it games.

About the Event

Spookarama is a FREE community event, but donations are greatly appreciated. Make a donation here to help support the PTA.

Please review our code of conduct before attending or sending your middle school student. You can find our code of conduct at the bottom of this page.

We need volunteers for both events! Please sign up to help make Spookarama weekend possible. And, if you can’t volunteer, please consider signing up to provide treats for or Musical Scares: The Treat Trot! The more we have, the longer this fan favorite lasts!

Spookarama Q&A:

Where does this event happen?

The entire event is at the Fernwood campus. Please use the front entrance on NE 33rd. Maps and signage will be throughout the building, but most activities are in the gyms and cafetorium. At the elementary carnival, the Haunted House will be in the basement area, and several activities will be held in classrooms on the first floor.

At the Middle School party, the dance will be held in the cafetorium, with activities in the gyms.

What activities will be there?

Elementary Carnival: We will have carnival-style games, a cakewalk, musical chairs, and a quiet space with calming activities.

Middle School Night: We will have Minute-to-Win-It games, a cakewalk, a dance, a movie, and a costume contest

Can we come in costume?

Yes! Wear your costumes, but please take all masks off. Help us avoid hurting bodies or feelings by leaving weapons and other accessories at home (toys or toy guns, swords, knives, etc.). Be creative and culturally sensitive! Please avoid any costumes that may be considered offensive and avoid cultural appropriation. This can be a complex question; click here to read an expert's take on this topic.

Middle Schoolers: Come prepared for a costume contest!

Is the Haunted House appropriate for all ages?

We will have gentler Haunted House experiences at 5:30 pm for younger kiddos (K-2). To make this enjoyable for all, please ask bigger kids who want the full spooky experience to wait for the later time (6:15-8pm).

Is the Haunted House wheelchair accessible?

Yes, a volunteer will assist you and your family in getting downstairs via the elevator.

Are non-Beverly Cleary School families allowed at this event?

Friends and family attending with a BCS student are welcome to attend the elementary carnival. Middle School Night is open only to BCS middle school students, who will have to show their Middle School ID.

How will the PTA use the funds raised from this event?

All funds raised from Spookarama will be put toward this year’s operational expenses and teacher grants. This year, the PTA has decided to waive the entrance fee to focus this event on community building as our primary goal, but donations are welcome!

Do you need volunteers?

Yes! This event is only possible with volunteers. Specifically, we need:

  • Help lead different functions leading up to and/or on the day of
  • Pre-event decoration and materials sourcing help
  • During the event, volunteers (both behind the scenes and event-related)
  • About 60 total volunteers to help set up and facilitate (in shifts) carnival-style games
  • Middle School Night Chaperones and game facilitators

Please review the volunteer page or contact spookarama@beverlyclearyschool.org with questions or ideas.
