Eighth Grade Promotion
Hello Parents and Caregivers of the 2024 BCS 8th Grade Class!
This webpage includes many important details for the 8th grade End of Year Activities. Please look over all the details so you are up to date!
Promotion After Party (Permission Slip required)
- When: Friday, June 14 7:30pm to 10:15pm
- Where: Portland State University Viking Game Room
- What: Bowling, billiards, gaming, music, photo booth and time to hang out with friends. Pizza, soda, popcorn, and dessert will be provided. Please notify korwren@gmail.com if your student has food allergies/sensitivities so that accommodations can be made.
- Transportation: After the promotion ceremony students will begin to line up for buses at 7:30pm in front of Grant High School. Buses will depart no later than 7:45 pm. Riding the bus is encouraged. If you have extenuating circumstances and cannot ride the bus, please email korwren@gmail.com so we can plan accordingly.
- Pick-up: Students will be bused back to Beverly Cleary School. All students should be picked up at 10:15pm. Students will not be allowed to walk home.
- Permission Slip/RSVP: All students attending the After Party are required to have this Permission Slip on file. Please submit by Friday, May 31. By signing the Permission Slip you are also RSVPing your student for the event.
- Volunteers Needed: Please sign-up to volunteer to chaperone the After Party. The event cannot happen without parent chaperones.
Updated BCS 8th Grade Promotion Schedule
Friday, June 14
- 8:45 AM - School starts. After checking in, students will walk to Grant with their teachers.
- 9:00 AM - Rehearsal at Grant
- 10:15 AM - Donuts and Yearbook Signing at BCS Courtyard. Lunch time - 8th grade picnic at Grant Park (volunteer opportunity)
- 1:45 PM - 8th grade vs. BCS staff volleyball game
- 3:00 PM - 8th grade clap-out (family & community participation encouraged - see note below)
- 6:00PM - Promotion Ceremony at Grant High School (Parents are encouraged to arrive at 5:30pm to find a seat).
- 7:30PM - Load buses at Grant for PSU After-Party.
- 10:15PM - Pick-up your student at BCS.
Promotion Ceremony Details
- Location: Grant High School Auditorium - 2245 NE 36th Ave, Portland, OR 97212
- 5:30 PM Doors open - Guests, please arrive early so the ceremony can start promptly at 6:00pm. Enter Grant HS through front doors facing 36th Ave.
- 6:00 - 7:15 PM - Promotion Ceremony
- 7:15PM - 7:30PM - Time to take pictures and congratulate your student before they head to the After Party bus.
8th Grade Clap-out Details
It is a BCS tradition that on the last day of school for the 8th graders, all students and staff assemble in the halls and honor them with applause and standing ovation as they exit BCS doors one final time. Parents, family, & community, who are able to attend, line up in two lines outside on the blacktop by the cafeteria doors and continue applauding and congratulating all the 8th graders. This is quite a moving and memorable tradition for our students. There's usually not a dry eye in the place, so bring your tissues!
8th Grade Congratulations Yard Signs
Yard signs are available to purchase for $10. Reach out to korwren@gmail.com to schedule pick-up. If you need assistance with purchasing a sign, please contact Principal Presley at bpresley@pps.net.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer to help with the 8th grade picnic or chaperone for the party - ride to PSU with students on the buses, help with food service, and provide security at the venue.
